As a young man Ewan joined the British Army. It was upon leaving, that he decided to seek a little adventure. Ewan chose to live in a burnt-out office building in downtown Sarajevo to photograph the daily life in the besieged city. He stayed for four months and then returned to England and enrolled in a fine art course at The Art Institute at Bournemouth.
After college he moved to London to assist commercial photographers working in a range of classical genres including landscape, automotive, fashion, portraiture, and music. As an assistant he became inspired by what was possible in the world of advertising. He says "Photography is about communicating visually. Commercially - I want to collaborate with the best people to produce work that is as articulate and eloquent as possible."
