Part of the Epworth Richmond Redevelopment, David Caon Studio was asked to develop a concept to give patients in shared rooms more privacy and a better atmosphere.
The concept, based on existing rooms within the oncology ward, seeks to take lessons learnt from Business Class cabin cabin design in the aviation industry and apply them to a hospital environment. The concept seeks to give the patients additional and accessible personal storage as well as better access to facilities and media.
Materials and furnishings within the rooms were addressed to bring a hotel suite feel rather than the cold and clinical atmosphere generally found in medical environments. It is the hope that a more pleasurable environment can aid and speed the patient's recovery.
Test suites are currently under construction.
