For this project, the class brainstormed different approaches to the concept of Hoarding. Could there be other ways to hoard things, or ideas? We thought of topics and then began to conceptualize a conference which will confront the chosen topic. Some of the ideas we thought about were about the government hoarding information, technology causing us to hoard our true selves and others. We chose to focus on technology stifling individuality. Internet users spend so much time online disguising who they are and allowing the social media networks frame their identity.
individually, we focused on the details of our conference. I called it Emergence, to describe the rebirth of the individual. We began to research images to use as we began to design the posters. I wanted to use something to illustrate the idea of revealing or uncovering, as well as identity. I gathered images of eyes, masks and locks. I decided on an image of masks being manufactured at a factory, which really tied in well with my topic. I chose a guest speaker Jaron Lanier, author of 'You are not a gadget'.
