DESCRIPTION:
Elastic Meshworks was exhibited at Pratt Institute School of Architecture as the culminating installation of the research seminar Form, Force, Matter. The installation was designed, developed, fabricated, and assembled over four weeks, inhabits a 2.5 storey stairwell, and is composed of 900 unique elastic components linked by custom acrylic clips. As a Form-Active Tension System, the installation served as a prototype to test both the efficient structural capacities of an elastic simulated form and the additional effects created by the meshwork's realized materiality. The process of producing the project included analog and digital strategies, including form-found scale models, parametric componentization, one-to-one cut templates, physics-based simulation, and digital fabrication.
