An editorial project I like a lot. The cover illustration and lettering for Mexican writer Norma Lazo’s novel «El Mecanismo del Miedo» (The Fear Mechanism). Since the plot is centered on a strange young girl and her far-out family, medieval machines, other-wordly creatures and a dark mansion full of stories, I created the artwork depicting all these ingredients, but in a non-narrative fashion to let the reader discover it all in the text. As usual, using traditional and electronic techniques: graphite over parchment, with digital colour. The title was designed to fit within the architectural motives of the illustration, featuring especially-made letter design and ornaments.This book, in a superb hard-cover edition, was published by Random House/Mondadori for their Montena label.
