The Ejection Seat Simulator (ESS) has the capacity to simulate a 10G experience in a specific, customer-designated jet aircraft ejection system, training aircrew to assess the need to eject, eject quickly and safely. Utilizing a pneumatic catapult system for maximum reliability and a series of safety interlocks, the ESS ensures that each trainee achieves proper body position before the commencement of the ejection process.
It was my job to come up with concepts to incorporate a wind-blast function to push the reality of the scenario. When the canopy is opened the pilot is blasted with high speed winds, the shock of this event can disorient the pilot causing them to respond poorly to the sitaution.
