I was trained as a graphic designer, so I tend to see things through those eyes. When I was a kid, food was food. We ate it, pretty much daily, but rarely thought about otherwise. I started watching PBS cooking shows about the same time I bought my first camera. Some years later, I’m happily combining these two pursuits.
I approach photography somewhat the same way I cook. I like to have a loose plan, but I also like to leave some room for “happy accidents” along the way. I want my images to tell stories and to respect the people and the food they portray. I like overly-dedicated, semi-eccentric, borderline-obsessive, risk-taking, tradition revering, get-your-hands-dirty artisan types. Tattoos optional.
I like food that looks like you’re allowed to eat it.
I like crumbs.
