Info
Description
East Stroudsburg University’s (ESU) design goals for the new 125,500 sf, $38 million Warren E. ’55 and Sandra Hoeffner Science & Technology Center were research and scholarship. ESUrecognizes research’s key role, both in the
teaching and learning process as well as in enhancing the University’s reputation. The new Science & Technology Center providesfacilities to conduct research, offers sophisticated teaching environments that utilize innovative
educational methodologies and technologies, creates opportunities for faculty development, and helps recruit, retain, and enhance collaborative research across disciplines and with partners from outside the University.
MKSD architects, in association with Gensler Architecture and Planning, Chicago, designed the new Science & Technology Center.
• A vertical drop for physics experimentation near the main entrance that spans all
building levels, which was designed to allow for full visibility from both within
the building and from its exterior.
• A 260-seat auditorium and 100-seat planetarium with “smart” technology.
• An observatory and multiple roof-mounted telescopes.
• A pedestrian bridge connecting the new facility to the second floor of the
Moore Biology Building.
*This project was originally awarded by the Pennsylvania Department of General Services to Roth Marz Partnership in September 2002. In January 2005 as MKSD was created from the Roth Marz Allentown studio, the East Stroudsburg niversity contract was assigned to MKSD architects. MKSD’s Partner-in-Charge Mark Thompson, AIA, and Project Manager John Young, AIA, LEED, AP, managed the project’s design and construction and its Design Team from beginning of programming through construction completion.
