I developed the branding and promotional material for Eathbox Television for an assignment at University in
A Semester of my third year of study.
The vision for Earthbox television is to inform viewers about the need for sustainable living but more so be an ideas generating channel, therefore making it possible for viewers to implement these practices into their everyday lives.
The style of the branding is a bit whimsical, it has quiet a strong feeling of human input and creation, it’s not totally perfect, manufactured and sterile, I think this give’s the brand character. I want people to feel motivated and inspired when they see the earthbox brand, for people to think of Earthbox as a valuable resource where they can be educated and entertained.
The Earthbox Television Logo is a representation of sustainable development and environmental awareness. The inspiration for this logo comes from mathematical tesselations, building blocks, plant forms and the curved and organic forms found in nature. The logo is an abstract open box and also incorporates building blocks and structure which makes the logo slightly intriguing.
I chose to work with an open box as it has a more positive and inviting feel rather than closed and confined. I have used a slightly abstract leaf shape for the sides to reflect nature, by doing so the message of growth and new beginnings is also implied. Featuring the leaf shape on some sides and simple outlines to show form on others gives the logo a 3-D appearance. This also creates a tesselation effect when the logo is repeated. The angular view of the box gives the logo a more dynamic feel.
I have used a slightly off set fill colour and hand drawn varying line weight to avoid the logo from having an overly sterile appearance and it also reflects the whimsical and free spirited vibe of Earthbox Television. I have chosen to use quite a curvy and friendly typeface. I think the chosen typeface compliments the logo well, reflects nature and also appeals to the target audience. The logo is then printed on recycled paper and hand stitched using 100% organic thread, therefore making each application of this logo unique.
