EUR – 908

About the work:

Previously these 4 artists worked on a collaborative project in July 2010,exploring the landscape in Falmouth (England) through the body trapped incostume and with the camera as a tool for documentation. This project wascommissioned by the University College of Falmouth. This time the undertaken project was a dance for camera collaboration spread over an intensive 2-week period. Our intention wasto create a project which will investigate the use of landscape as achoreographic resource within the contemporary art scene in Malta. Subjective observations regarding contemporary Maltese culture were made and the the relationship between the indigenous people and the rural landscape/rural vistas came through as a significant cultural aspect that was consequently deconstructed by the artists.

EUR – 908 is a hugely cynical satirical film work. In the accompanying description of the project, the intentions and the perspectives of the artists who were involved in the EUR – 908 project are exposed and it is explained how these ideas have been manifested within the final product.

Context:

Malta's arts scene can purportedly be described in two ways. Either as conservative or uninspired. The handful of artists that practise contemporary arts struggle against a plight of local creativity and understanding. Naturally this is distressing as it infers a state of creative/constructive narcolepsy. The only appropriate response is, “something must happen!”
