Conceptual Student Project
Art Direction / Photography / Logo / Tagline
Éponge is an art gallery based in Palo Alto, set in Northern CA. This artistic laboratory engages audiences with exhibitions that are committed to experimentation, innovation, and the exploration of art in our time. Éponge focuses on inspiring projects of various forms of art and media that explore new ideas, materials, and re-envision the relationship between art and life. Showcasing both local and international artists, it engages audiences in thought-provoking events and exhibitions that examine history and showcase current practice in art and mixed media.
The design challenge was that traditionally, galleries and museums are a storage space for historical artifacts. The goal was to overcome this problem by developing more conversation between art and the viewer, using the different areas of art Éponge focuses on. Using minimal graphics, typefaces, and a strong color scheme of black and gold, the art direction was designed to keep the viewers focus on the art and visuals themselves, targeting contemporary individuals ages 30-50 years old. The word Éponge is French for sponge, which is directly related to the tagline, "see and absorb: experience the art around you".
Gala invitation would be sent to donors with an interest in art. primary ad campaign would be featured around Palo Alto and art magazines such as Art Ltd., ArtNews, and Artillery. Gallery collateral would be sold at the museum store and E-Commerce website to raise funds and awareness.
