The e-Dirham is a Payment Tool devised by the Ministry of Finance in order to facilitate collection of Revenues, providing the government with a secure payment method, and providing the public with a convenient payment tool. The e-Dirham was initially intended for the revenue collection of the federal government, but gradually the e-Dirham has become the payment method, which many local governments in the UAE are using including semi-governmental organization and even some of the Private Sector.
The e-Dirham was launched on the 3rd of February 2001. Marking the UAE to be the first to introduce such a system countrywide within the Arab Region. It has become widely available, and has many payment channels. The UAE has become the center for the IT innovations, and the e-Dirham is one of the good examples.
The need for redesign was occurred when the second generation of the e-Dirham was introduced, the second generation of e-Dirham is considered as an extension for the present generation of the electronic Dirham system; however, it adopts the most modern information technologies with applying the best international practices for the electronic payments and new collection methods which are the safest and most protective and effective and with many methods and channels for new electronic payments. This system shall be the most comprehensive and the largest one in terms of expansion and spread as an integrated electronic payment system in UAE connected to other international payment networks.
The design of the e-Dirham logo symbolize the implementation of the latest technologies that used in the government revenue collection process, the “E” & “D” letters have been designed using the shape of the electronic chips, which was introduced in the e-Dirham cards and in the electronic devices to facilitate the process of government revenue collection.
Also the “E” and “D” letters were designed to be as one interlocked unit to reflect the idea of transaction process of funds from the physical form to the electronic form, which was the big idea of e-Dirham, this transformation will allow the government’s clients to perform there Interest in more secured and productive environment, and streamlined the fund collection process for the government. The e-Dirham security feature was represented in the design by intersect the “E” from the “D” shape.
The colour selection was made to introduce the service to the audience as approachable, orange represents energy & enthusiasm, combined with gray, it indicates solid, intelligence and modesty, the choice of upper case letters sends a message of service; this attracts the customer attention and project boldness, the letters fit comfortably and form a pretty solid unit.
