Music, like art and design can mean different things to different people. This lyric, removed from the context of its song, can be interpreted as many things but it remains an evocative and graphic phrase.
From Amy Winehouse’s song Some Unholy War, “Drunk on Pride” is a lyric that has resonated with me because it has a powerful sense of imagery and it is also a unique but relatable expression that can be interpreted person to person.
The musical aesthetic and the singers style, as well as my own interpretation of the lyric, have influenced how I have created the typography, which uses both hand drawn sans serif type and calligraphic lettering. The combination of these elements is a reflection of my understanding of the lyric, layered with my personal aesthetic, love of typography and this song.
