Synthesis and analysis of my own dreams was the starting point for the project. I’ve also incorporated popular scientific theories about electrical patterns in the brain during sleep and famous psychology experiments and research methods including the sensory deprivation test and the shared lucid dreams experiments carried out in the early eighties.
The work I’ve produced could be described as a meeting between surrealism, science and collage art. I’ve used tried and tested techniques such as repetition and juxtaposition within my collages to represent the random and yet repetitive nature of dreams. I’ve used old Letraset transfers in combination with images from old science journals and encyclopedias. I feel that the letraset, although not used in it’s originally intended manner, lends a certain nostalgia to the work that brings me back to my childhood and a time when my dreams were at their most exciting.
