Dream Catcher

  • Dream Catcher

       2010

    60'' x 27'' x 3''

     Aluminum, steel, and rubber

  • Dream catcher was made from my front wheel after encountering a “dooring”. It is woven with steel rigging wire and wrapped with used bicycle tubes around the aluminum wheel.  When the feathers are lit, emit the colors blue, orange, and purple from heating the steel.

Traditionally, dream catchers are made from sinew and willow for children. Eventually they dry out and collapse to signify adulthood. I chose steel and rubber because they can outlast our childhood.  Bicycles are not just for children and can be a viable part of our adult lives.
