For this project we were given the concept of 'Glass Ceilings' which is a term for an invisible barrier for minorities in society, particularly in places of work, preventing them from progressing. This was our starting point. We could take the project in any direction but I decided to keep a general theme of discrimination, stereotyping and ignorance as I felt these where the main issues to be explored. We were also encouraged to be experimental with techniques and approaches.
I decided to make a set of posters, each with a different approach to communication. I wanted to created work which provoked the view and made them seek the message rather and have it shouted at them. I took influence from a wide range of artists and designs including: Jason Munn of the Small Stakes Poster, Saul Bass, Alan Fletcher and illustrator Noma Barr.
I experimented with various visual techniques some of which are more effective than others. Some of the optical illusions created are deliberately meant to irritate or entice the viewer into exploring and seeking the message.
