My goal is to illustrate the advantages of the ultra light construction and the monocoque- cabin- construction regarding its usage in daily life. Hence an alternative to the common automobile is offered. Today, our vehicles strike out due to over motorizing. The thought to construct a vehicle that only profits from both its aerodynamic and optimized form is not followed thorough. The vehicles tend to be wider and heavier, more potent motors are produced. The transport volume of the vehicle is not used fully in any way; the mass product automobile transfers into an holdup-object.

If one thinks about the fact that the roads are filled with a vast amount of vehicles which only use a quarter of their transportation capacity, it is realized that this is inefficient, especially in terms of the relation between usage and efficiency per person. Wide huge vehicles more often stand than are ridden and at the same time use a lot of space on our streets.

The following result of my diplom paper is a one-person-vehicle that unites all possibilities to create a new and more efficient way of driving. An important point to increase the aerodynamic efficiency was the choice of a motorbike-cladding. It not only loses the heavy riding suit but also minimizes the air turbulences. Another advantage of the single track vehicle is that the friction forces are minimized due to having two wheels and a smaller vehicle width. Electric gyroscopes are installed to balance the automobile in situations in which it stands, e.g. at a traffic light, and prevent it from falling over. Moreover, those gyroscopes are connected with the KERS and supply them permanently with the needed energy. To fully use its power, the one-person-vehicle has an all-wheel-drive (2WD) and a 2-wheel steer (2WS). Its gliding through curves, handling as well as agility profits from this. The vehicle has a small TDI-Hybridmotor.

The small frontal area of 0,68m2 benefits the drag coefficient. Calculated, it equals a CD of 0.14. This is compared to the Golf 7 which has a frontal area of 2.19m2 and a CD of 0.27. This low CD has two positive features: the low consumption as well as the needed motorforce.

Comparising

Comparing the aerodynamic drag force of both vehicles with: Fw = CD * A * p/2 * v2
Results for 200 km/h for the Golf 7:

Fw = 0,27 * 2,19m2 * 1,293kg/m3/ 2*(55,56 m/s)2 = 1180,05 N
Engine power Golf 7 at 200 km/h (55,56 m/s)
P = F * v = 1180, 05 N * 55,56 m/s = 65563, 65 W = 65,56 kW

For the VW AERROW
Fw = 0,14 * 0,68m2 * 1,293kg/m3/ 2*(55,56 m/s)2 = 176,42 N
P = F * v = 176,42 N * 55,56 m/s = 9801,89 W = 9,80 kW

The needed motor power of the AERROW is only a friction of what common vehicles need. To constantly drive with 200km/h, the VW AERROW would only need 9,8 kW or 13,32 Hp.
The VW Golf need 65,56 kW or 89,14 Hp for this condition. It is assumed that the consumption could be reduced compared to the motor + KERS which is economically.
In combination with a ultralight CFK-Chassis could this vehicle start a new dimension of motion. Only through form, reduction and efficiency such a vehicle can be realized.
