Digital Memorialisation

DIGITAL MEMORIALISATION

For my Extended Major Project, I focussed on the theme of Digital Memorialisation. Our current generation is saturated by digital, nearly everything we record and document is archived as data. To memorialise this information, I transformed our intangible data into physical solutions that act as celebratory memorials, preserving ourselves forever. I focussed on the three most valuable parts of our digital lives; our digital written word, our digital photographs and digital music collections.

The Twitter Ball

One of the memorials, that represents our digital written word, is The Twitter Ball. The Twitter ball collects all your favourited tweets and compiles them into The Twitter ball. Each band represents a tweet. The more you tweet, the larger your Twitter ball will get.

The .mp3 Frame

The memorial that represents our digital music collection is the .mp3 Frame. A large frame encases your favourited music albums of all time, building up a picture of your music. Each album is represented by a guitar plectrum. Personal favourite albums of all time would be mounted in individual frames, generating a hierarchy of your musical tastes.

The Pixel Album

The Pixel Album represents our digital photographs. Your favourited photographs from Facebook and Twitter get printed onto little pixels and eventually, build up a picture of your digital life. On the opposite sides of the pixels would be the digital information, like the date, who your tagged with, and the likes.
