DEVANAGARI TYPOGRAPHY RESOURCE
Online tutorial for understanding Indic scripts
I knew for my senior thesis that I would want to explore South Asian typography. I realized that, as the world becomes a village, interest in this subject might expand. At the same time, I found a dearth of centralized information about the subject. I sought to unite the community of typographers for Devanagari, an Indian script, while also broadening its reach. I developed an interactive tutorial for learning Indian scripts to be housed at a fictive online community for Indian type called "Akshara." The tutorial teaches by comparisons and features motion graphics that to make extremely foreign information more digestible for those interested in learning a new way of thinking about language and letterforms. This was a wonderful experience for learning about the research process, about linguistics and writing, and about the role of visual communication in education.
