Design in Music: Havana, Cuba
- Design in Music: Poster Design
In 2008, I was selected by the AIGA Sharing Dreams Program to design a poster for a collaborative art show featuring the work of American and Cuban designers, hosted in Havana. The theme for the poster show was "Design in Music." Following the design and production of our posters, I was fortunate enough to spend a week in Cuba for the exhibit opening and meet some extremely talented designers from both Cuba and America. Some of my photographs from my trip are below. - Design concept: Music has an amazing power to either intensify the emotions one feels or transform them to reflect the mood of the song. The most influential music resonates with us on the deepest level of our emotions, baring the sadness of heartbreak or joyfully swaying us across a dance floor. The universal quality of harmony allows music to transcend culture and language similar to the universal understanding of facial expressions. Three of the most common human emotions are represented by the outlines and vibrant colors designed for this poster. The three instrument silhouettes represent evolution over time and across cultures.
