The brief for this project asked us to write a statement true to who we are as designers, and design a way to showcase our work with that statement in mind. My statement, Design for Growth, touches on the theme of nature I often include in my projects, and on how my design education at SVA has grown me as both a designer and a person. I chose nine projects for each of the nine months I had been in the program at that time. Each project is represented by an icon derived from the work that was used on a handmade seed packet. I wrote one word on each packet that explains what I learned or experienced from the process of that particular project. The back of the seed packet includes information on the project, and the inside of each packet contains images of the work itself.
As a secondary element, I created nine matching notebooks for each month of the following year in the SVA program—the idea being that I could use each as a sketchbook for each month, reminding myself of what I have learned and motivating myself to keep growing.
