Das Build is a brand brought about by luck, creativity and ambition. After purchasing a 2010 VW GTI, I entered a raffle online for a chance to win an aftermarket upgrade package for this new car. After 25 years of winning nothing... I won.
APR LLCan ever-growing VW tuning and motorsport company based out of Opelika, Alabama develops automotive upgrades for VWs, Audis and Porsches. The kit in question is a Stage III turbo upgrade worth nearly $5000. This also converts the factory GTI's standard 210hp to 340hp. Full upgrade systems like this are coveted and envied throughout the VW tuner communitywhich is a vastly growing collection of owners in the hundreds of thousands.
I decided that I would document the full conversion from stock to stage III to help educate the public of the quality product APR develops and races. It began as a promotional "thank you" to APR for the free kit. Shortly after posting my intentions on VWVortex.com, another offer was made. This offer was a full invitation to travel to Futrell Auto Works outside of Portland, Oregon.
A cross-country trip scheme was hatched, including multiple APR distributors across America, a Facebook fan page for people to follow, Twitter page for updates, and threads on four other forums to help spread the word through the VW tuner community. I'm working with Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Harrisburg Area and asking local/national business to sponsor $1/mile in donations to help fund the trip and build affordable housing for those in need.
The successful execution of this trip will raise money to fund housing, the trip itself and generate national coverage for APR Tuning, Volkswage of America and everybody else involved.
