Winona State University presents Dancescape 2014
This annual event features original choreography and performances by students and faculty.
Dancescape showcases a variety of dance styles and encompasses an overall theme of movement.
I've had the wonderful opportunity of being able to collaborate with the Theatre & Dance
department since my work was chosen as the winning design to represent the event for 2014.
The design will be used for the promotional materials needed to advertise the event including
postcards, posters, an XL outdoor banner and interior wall painting of the design.
Building a Concept
Since the previous years winning design included a flowing stream of color on a stark white background,
one of my goals while creating my design was to emphasize a warm & inviting focus point on a dark background. And instead of creating a literal flow of color to show movement, I chose to challenge myself
with the project and create a blocky minimalistic design that would stand apart from the rest of the competition.
My design features an iconic set of overlapping shapes paired with an organic texture
overlayed to create depth and movement between the layers and objects.
The design embodies a metaphorical sense of movement while maintaining a
minimalistic & memorable illustration "logo" to represent the event.
Thank You!
