Project: Picnic by Design 2012 Basket
Photography: Becky Yee
Vintage meets quirky industrial with the design of our “basket” for the first annual Picnic by Design.
Taking design cues from an antique travelers trunk and child’s wagon, the basket is a mix of a modern aesthetic and traditional detailing. A plywood map is applied to all sides of the design and offset by copper hardware. For ease of use and flexibility, there is a sliding tray on top of the basket that can act as a table while casters make it easy to transport.
Inside the basket mini cast iron skillets, bamboo-cutting boards, mason jars and white porcelain flatware create a complimentary dining vignette. Fresh basil and sage plants were included as a natural yet functional element to keep the bugs away. A custom blanket was designed out of canvas, twine, green paint and a “Picnic by Design” stamp. Vintage playing cards, a wooden connect four and piggy bank add an element of surprise and fun to the whole experience.
Imaginative, cool and casual our design embodies the atmosphere of this exciting new event!
