D&AD Interbrand : Peace Day

A D&AD White Pencil Brief.

“We want to make it impossible for anyone to ignore Peace Day. We want to make it a day that everyone around the world engages with. The task is to grow grassroots awareness and active personal engagement with Peace Day, to make this day ubiquitous and as part of our social fabric as Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day”

The Concept
Taking on the aim to make Peace Day become as engaged with as days like Christmas or Easter. The main concept behind this is to turn Peace Day into a tradition. Traditions are followed and carried out by members of our society. Everyday on these particular days whether its gifts, dressing up in fancy dress or just a simple family meal. So, the aim is to create something that people will do on this day, every year, showing their recognition of the importance of peace.

Target Audience
The aim is to reach everybody around the globe but more specifically “Change-makers: those who believe in actions. Those who believe in the power of individual actions to build a greater future.”

The Solution
Introducing a new tradition that hopefully will be carried out all over the world. On 21.09.12 people will be encourage to give a “Peace of Something Blue:” to someone to show their engagement with Peace Day.

Type for Peace
A Typeface designed as part of the Peace day branding and used in the “Peace of Something Blue” Campaign. The design was inspired by the idea of origami and the folding of the origami dove which is a symbol for peace. The letter‘e’ which happens to be the last letter of many words used in this campaign is subtly altered into the origami dove to highlight the idea. I didn’t want the typeface to become the dominant part of the campaign, instead is rather subtle but visually interesting to be used to help support the “blue” id
Media
On this day I am proposing that all social network websites and the commonly visited website change their look just for that one day in support of the “Peace of Something Blue” campaign. I wanted the this to be quite subtle and rather vague in order the draw people’s interest and curiosity.I am also proposing that on 21 September 2012 , all major newspapers around the world change the colour of their print to PANTONE 3105 EC.
