Cycling over the moon
illustration for children's book
Personal intention to get a freelance job for drawing a children's book illustrations. Note: I did not write the story that I had mentioned here. This is an excerpt for an illustration:

….
Joel had another look at the skyand his eyes almost popped out when he saw the vehicle reappear from behind themoon. Obviously, the high-wheel bicycle had made a circle around the moon! Joel closed his eyes and repeatedthe promise not to eat more than two rows of chocolate per day - or, muchbetter, just one tiny row.
WhenJoel opened his eyes the vehicle, including thehuman-like figure, were still there. It looked now as if the vehicle hadstopped moving. Joel tried to see who in fact sat atop this strangeand old-fashioned wheel. He looked closely and saw a man wearing a purple night cap and a three-quarter coat in lightblue. He wore colourful pants and held an umbrella in one hand.
The man in the colourful clothessuddenly changed his cycling path. Instead of continuing to make circles aroundthe moon he now began to cycle right in in Joel’s direction!
…..

Note from the writer: Large shiny moon & stars, front view of George on his high-wheelbicycle in his colourful clothes, holding an umbrella, cycling away from themoon. George as a Walt Disney like classicfigures, colourful and detailed. The scene should look funny and appealing forkids. George is around 75 years old, he is a funny and friendly character.

Work started from a very rough sketch to visualize the character from the story. then it has been digitalised using photoshop, fews fixed and added details on the character heights (since the character portray grandpa look like, it should be shorter and have bend shoulder), hand and legs. Lastly, build on the ambience (moon, night & stars) and finalised the illustration.
