Project: Cultural Arts Center - Theater
Designers: costin MORARU
Site: Gradina Icoanei, Bucharest
With a site that is very close to Bucharest's central area, this project sets out to create a theater surrounded by complementary functions - a cultural arts center, that the city currently lacks.
Since the surrounding area is mostly made out of individual and collective housing, the approach was to create a landmark, something unique, but that also has an indisputable connection with the neighborhood.
Drawing inspiration from the abstract paths of the park situated North of the site, multiple pavilions were born: the largest one hosts the theater, as well as a workshop and various administrative spaces; it's importance is obvious due to it's size.
Surrounding the main pavilion are smaller ones, that have various functions, such as a library, a greenhouse, a bar and a temporary exposition. All of these different things are meant to draw the pedestrian's attention, to create a permanent state of interest.
The pavilions facades are made out of colored glass panes, and feature metallic elements inspired by the surrounding trees - a modern, industrial view on the buildings' vicinity.
