Crosland Greens Sustainable Design Contest

Crosland Greens Sustainable Design Contest
Top Five Finalist
This one-stage competition was located on Crosland’s 33-acretract that they have owned since the late 1950’s.  Currently the site sits adjacent to the ScaleybarkStation on the South Corridor Light Rail line making it a candidate for Transit-Oriented-Redevelopment.  Originally this commercial center was developedby Crosland as a neighborhood grocery-anchored center, which was later adaptedto house Crosland’s corporate and division offices (until 2004). Croslanddeveloped and built the majority of the residential units found on the site(apartments and duplexes) beginning in the late 1950s. In fact, John Crosland,Jr. personally directed the construction of the duplex units as a young man.
Crosland envisioned the development would concentrate a mixof complementary, well integrated transit supportive land uses, transformingits site into a highly desirable, pedestrian-oriented, mixed-use transitvillage in this infill site.  Buildingmassing and design would be urban and dense closest to South Blvd. and thetransit station and less dense near the existing residential neighborhoods.Thoughtful integration of well-designed and meaningful open spaces will becritical to the creation of a “sense of place” and desirability for residents, tenants and customers.
Potentially the site has a great chance for renewal which iswhy the project name is evolving from Crosland Centre to Crosland Greens.  Crosland saw an opportunity for thischallenge to enhance the plan to be a more conscientious development and haveless impact on the environment.
