The narrative that I am trying to articulate through this series is the balance yet contrast between artificial and natural colors by examining plants, fruit and vegetables on backgrounds of neon colored papers. At first my intention was to explore the differences with the use of direct sunlight but as the project evolved I found that I was intrigued by the similarities in the tones and hues and it amazed me that the fruit started to look as artificial as the papers, and the paper as natural as the flowers.
By using color metaphorically I am utilizing the Poetics of Color in my work as I am juxtapositioning highly saturated, vibrant hues against each other to intensify the meaning inherent in my intention. The hues are more vivid when adjacent and create an invigorating energy.
I sequenced my collection by the background colors, to contrast against its immediate neighbour, and then I repeated that pattern, as nature ebbs and flows, and I wanted my series to reflect this natural rhythm to tie in with the subject matter itself. Read Less
