Contemporary impresionism
Contemporary Impressionism
Within the course’s design and society series we had to produce a disturbing video focusing on an aspect of Lincoln’s cityscape. The famous Lincoln Cathedral was highlighted as my favoured subject, with the film aiming to emphasise its prominence over the city.
Through research and previous readings I became aware of impressionist painter Claude Monet’s Rouen Cathedral series, where he painted the subject throughout a period of time documenting the changing light and weather conditions. I felt this was a sound basis to work from and looked at how I could transfer this technique to the modern era using a variety of recording formats. As a result the concept of trying to demonstrate with these techniques, that I can capture in greater detail the elusive light conditions which Monet strived to document through his work.
