It was a deep and loving friendship that formed when a Jewish girl and an Islamic Egyptian met as room mates freshman year of college. Always appreciating the intricate meaning of the yin and yang symbol, exploring how they are not opposing forces but rather complementary opposites interacting within a greater whole projecting the idea of greater balance reminded me strongly of our friendship. Our complementary relationship much like that of the yin yang symbol kept our small cubicle sized room we shared peaceful and harmonious which I tried to portray in the piece.
