This piece was designed and built in 2012 as a commissioned piece. The client wanted a very specifically stylized design right from the beginning, a challenge not typically encountered when I work in this medium. After some discussion we came up with the idea of having the frame be modeled after a type of old window. The etched design on the mirror would be used to draw your eye out through the window, achieving an implied sense of depth. To do this I chose your typical "American Dream" image of the white picket fence and pathway to lead the viewers eye across the piece. The frame was routed like actual window mullions and then painted with a matte black finish.
