Colour Blind Awareness is a Community Interest Company, formed for non-profit making purposes, to raise awareness of the needs of the colour blind in the community located in Aylesbury, England.
While researching for this project, I read a lot of facts about parents not knowing their child is colour blind until the age of 8. This can be such a struggle in school for these children and I wanted to show how much it effects through my campaign.
Each ad has a filter to show how someone with Protanopia views the world. Based off the toys, one ad is specific to a boy, the other specific to a girl and a spread ad specific to both genders. The theme is "I Spy" and gives you a red object to find. Obviously, there is nothing red in the images because of the colour blind filter. This brings attention to how much this can challenge a child.
The direct mail piece for this campaign stays within the same theme. The wood texture printed on the box and pull out drawer represents a student, parent, or teachers desk. Inside there is an I SPY book with three glasses that have colour blind lenses and instructions. This piece is meant to be a test for the parents to give their child. You simply play the game with and without the glasses to see if they are colour blind. If they are not, the I SPY booklet can still be kept as a toy and the child can understand how another child with Protanopia may see the world.
The campaign received a Gold ADDY at the 2013 ADDY Awards in Jacksonville, Florida and the direct mail piece received a Silver ADDY. Read Less
