As the only Major League Baseball team in a 600-mile radius, the Colorado Rockies truly are “Colorado’s Team,” and deserve a brand that captures the history,geography, and culture from which the team was born.
This project reimagines the Colorado Rockies brand identity through the lens of Colorado state history, taking into consideration everything from the influx of settlers during the Pike’s Peake Gold Rush, to the role of the transcontinental railroad in establishing and maintaining the region’s prosperity. From the distinct lettering and type treatments inspired by antique mining certificates, to the textures taken from the printing techniques that are an integral aspect of the region’s visual landscape, this revitalized system attempts to bring the brand in line with the tradition and pioneerspirit that it was founded upon by referencing the authenticity, heritage, integrity, and perseverance that characterize Denver and the Front Range. Additionally, the Blake Street Brewery sub-brand—a nod to the street the Rockies’ stadium is located on—gives fans an additional touchpoint beyond the stadium, and connects the team to Colorado’s rich brewing culture.
