Colchester Film Festival

Me and my frequent collaborator Sam Knott were invited to design the branding, promotional material and programme for the Colchester Film Festival, an international short film festival held across three days in October 2012.

We created a full identity for the festival using almost exclusively typography and colour. The logo was devloped to represent a mix of the Roman heritage of the town and the technology employed in the film industry, while also using different weighted type to create a sense of intrigue and consistency across all type used throughout the promotion of the event. We also used a cascading typographic 'filmstrip' motif which we applied to much of the printed material, as well as employing a similar effect on layout of the programme.

It was a big job that I have much more to say about than will fit here, so I wrote several blog posts going into more depth about the branding, advertising and programme which explain the ideas behind our designs and show how the project developed.
