Cocktail City is a series of artworks developed as a bridge between graffiti, cityscape and destruction.
Being the Royal Studio a graffiti-born studio, we keep the vandal atmosphere alive everyday with an active role on the Oporto's street scene with throw-ups, paste-ups and fames.
As part of the Auditório schedule, a series of raw hip-hop events have taken place mixing rap in the whole local subculture with a strong emphasis on the new influences and styles. As such, the Royal Studio was requested to set a small exhibit crossing the bridge from the old-school graffiti to the media and design approach. The concept of the whole series was to mix graffiti in a pre-designed controlled structure created from the cocktail drinks sold at the club, as a re-interpretation of the its surroundings, creating a system that would allow the graffiti to flow as naturally in the print media as it does in the city's streets. All of the graffiti icons and graphics are derived from the pieces that we have sprayed around the Auditório surroundings in the last years, therefore transporting the street to the club, the vandalism to the controlled atmosphere, and the anonymous to the author in a direct artistic mix.
The pieces were thought and designed to be sold with without any profit, making them as free as they are in the city. A true hip-hop spirit lies in the sharing of attitude, experience, skill and authorship.
This piece is part of the Royal Studio's graffiti project, under the name of Ta which you can find here:
