Space Design & Trade Show Booth Design

I conceive of themes, design and manage fabrication for our major trade shows like the Natural Products Expo and Interbike. I work closely with Sales and Marketing to meet all our needs for these unique shows. Our goal is to create very unique experiences that you would only expect could come from Clif Bar. We celebrate the crafted nutrition of our products, our dedication to organic ingredients and farmers, and highlight our support for our athletes. We focus on using repurposed materials in thoughtful ways as well as infusing a sense of humor when possible. Many of the craft pieces I create myself. We also work very closely with talented fabricators who get our aesthetic.

I collaborate with the Brand team to design sampling displays that communicate the essence of the product. I work with the Sales team to understand the message they want to create and develop innovative ways to tell the story.

We have many other food companies trying to find out which agency Clif Bar uses to design their booth. But it is all done internally by myself and a colleague
This was our Natural Product Expo West booth for 2015 that I designed.
I create a big branded piece for our trade show to be seen from a distance and help people locate our booth. I focused on creating our logo with a fun textured treatment. The wheels behind the logo rotate with a motor.
This tower piece can change out panels to tell different stories. This is a piece I created for Winter Outdoor Retailer to highlight our new Clif Organic Energy Food. This was a show stopper for the buyers and other visitors.
I created this display piece for the Natural Product Show to highlight our RTD.  The base has a light that illuminates the drink/bottle. When I was designing this, I created a cardboard mock-up of the design so I could communicate to the fabricator.
Sampling displays for the Clif Shot Bloks
I created a visual system to communicate the different occassions that our products should be consumed. This system also translated to a new system on how to merchandise.
I designed our trade show sampling system to for our Sports Retail category to tell the product usage story.
I design properties so that they can be reskinned to create different themes. This stage/meeting spaces structure has been transformed many times. In this show, we modified it to be a General Store.
Interbike outside wall design. I created a modular panel system that easily be updated with new features and graphics.
My trade show design process has been very smooth since I mock up scaled models. These models allow me to get understanding for flow and receive design approvals quickly. We are able to problem solve on the spot and get everyone on the same page through this tool.
This is the final fabricated piece of based on the previous image.
This is a fun art piece an illustrator and I collaborated on. This was created for the Interbike show. The square colored pieces off the back of the bike are our Bloks product attached to this illuminated graphic.
I brainstormed with the Experience Marketing team and came up with our very popular Clif posters for Interbike. I found the Illustrator and worked closely with him to create these collectable pieces. We had our athletes sign their posters at the show and give to the visitors. Based on the popularity of these posters, we continue to update them each year.
I created this trade show booth model in one night. I was helping out a friend who was having trouble with some last minute design issues around flow and storytelling. My design helped them refine their new booth that they launched at the Natural Products Expo.
This was a quick model I made for a trade show booth that we only had 3 weeks to create. I had one week to design and then we went to fabrication.
I helped Wild Planet think of how to elevate their trade show booth design. I sketched up this design and provided inspiration images in just a couple of hours based on a brainstorm conversation on the phone.
The above video is a walk through of my prototype room at Clif Bar to share the importance of 3 dimensional model making. My sister created this video for a class she is developing for elementary school kids focused on space design.
