  • In Principles of Interactive Design, graduate students were challenged to create an information widget, mobile application, or web resource combining different formats (such as text, maps, images, or video) and multiple sources of information (such as a database, RSS feed, or API).

CityTap, inspired by Scoutmob, Groupon, and Yelp, is a mobile app that locates happy hours, daily specials, and late night dining in different cities while also offering a reward system based on the number of "Tap-Ins," or visits, to participating restaurants and bars.

Although CityTap uses the same geolocation technology that Foursquare and other check-in systems do, it doesn't require users to join a social network, disclose their location to others, or earn "badges" in order to receive rewards. The app features a custom mySQL database and the Google Maps API as well as robust sorting and search functions.
