These are my final prints for my BA Hons Degree show that will begin on the 20th of May and commence for two weeks. It is the 17th Annual Photo Festival for Nottingham Trent and I am very proud to be a part of it and the whole exhibition accounts for 50% of my final grade. These prints are a new chapter for me with my work taking a big step up technically in terms of photoshop skill and also content. You can see my peers work and locations for the shows on our festival website here - www.wearespectrum.co.uk
Synaesthesia, despite having a broad range of symptoms and descriptions, is in short, a neurological condition in which an automatic and involuntary perception is received by the patient when exposed to certain sensory stimuli; an 'overlaying' of what the rest of us would perceive as 'normal'. It is with this in mind that my work gains it's title as it evokes and revolves around ideas and theory based on aspects of the hyperreal. The play on words is a homage towards the huge influence that modern cinema and its visual language has had on my work and the word as a whole relates to how I overlay cinematic traits - both literally and figuratively on to my own reality; utilising photography as a tool to do so, in the process constructing my own hyperreal universe of fictional characters, places and events based around my own personal issues and experiences.
