- Children of the Idiom is the first and only full-length solo album fromSlick Corea (Phil Chang). Thematically, the album explores thepossibilities of embedding permanence within multi-stratified layers ofpop culture and contemporary imagery - the vapor of what is current.
Set in this age, an era that finds communication at its mostinstantaneous and taken largely for granted, Children of the Idiomdefies the fleeting nature of the moment by implicitly loadingpersonal, philosophical, artistic, spiritual and political ideas intoidioms that the youth of today manipulate on a daily basis.
Influencedby the ongoing break down of geographical segregation in hip hop’sironically conservative culture, and with the reintroduction ofelectronic influences in rap music, Slick Corea aspires to capture theessence of independent music by experimenting with the stylisticfreedom these new possibilities offer rappers musically.
- Children of the Idiom is available for free download here and here. The album comes packaged with a full-length book with two essays concerning music, fashion and how these forces have impacted contemporary youth culture.
