Checkerboards
The idea for this series came from a Freddie Mercury picture of him in his iconic checkered outfit. Originally I started it as a bit of drawing practice - I wanted to make something that looked like a drawing as in had some unfinished or less controlled aspects. The black and white appealed to me and I thought the checkerboard idea could create interesting background effects. In the first picture I wanted to make it look like he was emerging from the background, and it worked pretty well, which led to two more pictures along the same lines. By the second picture I decided to try and capture more movement and so chose a jumping pose. The third picture concentrates more on this idea and the checkered background became less important.
