Cheapskate Gypsies

Character Design
Cheapskate Gypsies was created through a ten week schoolproject as a concept for a tshirt and print series, and as a potential new clothing brand. The word "Cheapskate" is usually used as demeaning, but for this project the meaning is twisted and reinvented as a mindstate in which a "cheapskate" doesnt care about material goods and doesnt seek comfort and approval by buying new unnecesarry gear, and doesnt give two shits about the newest flatscreen tv or smartphone released on the market. Living day to day and seeking kicks on the road with nothing but a tent, a skateboard and his best buddies. The concept is loosely inspired by early american hobo life and the spirit of todays D.I.Y (Do it yourself) attitude, hesh skatebrands, and finally mixed with the 20's & 30s b/w cartoon style. The visual expression is strictly black and white.
