TYPE OF WORK: Interface Design, Self Directed Degree Project
YEAR COMPLETED: 2011
SPECIFICATIONS: Narrated Video
DURATION: An Entire Semester
To seek out a researchable question in an area of personal interest and conceptualize a design solution in this self directed degree project that lasted the duration of the final semester.
Utilizing three core elements — characters, plot and location, every narrative describes a sequence of fictional or non-fictional events. My interest lies in the formation and interactivity of characters and using them as a vessel for exploration and discovery that reinterprets the notion of a narrative.
Through the development of a reusable system that visually represents complex patterns and structured data comes a new way to explore stories. Using “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” as a case study, I have prototyped an immersive interactive experience that allows audiences to delve deeper into the characters through the visualization of the patterns present in the extracted data.
The system and interface serve as an engaging and memorable alternative to navigating through a narrative which encourages curiosity and interaction.
I managed to read the Millennium Trilogy by Stieg Larsson in less than a week (I was that hooked).
