Character Animation

Recently I was comissioned to make a Character Animation test in Toon Boom Animate PLE. I had to use an Animatic as reference for the creation of Ximena´s character and interaction. The test aimed at the creation of a walking cycle and a Lipsync test animating gestures.


First I decided to create a Character chart, so I could sketch the looks of all the characters that appeared in the animatic.
Then, I cleanded up Ximena´s character using Adobe Illustrator (because I planned to import my vector file into Animate laterto skip the learning process on "how to draw in Animate"). My plan didn´t work because Animate PLE doesn´t support Adobe Illustrator vector files... so in the end, I learnt to draw inside Animate, and I loved it!

Once I´ve redrawn Ximena, I made her rigg. This was a tough process (especially because I´ve only made 2D animation into Adobe Flash). I had a LOT to learn, but at the end it all fitted very well.

Next you can check the Ximena´s Walking Cycle. I tried to capture the sense of gravity and inertia (in the hair). I think (despite the limitations) I ended up making a very natural motion flow.
The second part of the test consist of Ximena´s gesticulation and lipsync. Sadly the clip below has no audio because I don´t own the rights of the audio track.
