C’è Spazio Per Tutti

“C’è Spazio Per Tutti” means “There Is A Space For Everyone“ in italian. It was an one-day event holded in Bovisa campus of Politecnico Di Milano, which enabled people from the Bovisa neighbourhood to interact with the campus. 56 students were divided into 8+1 groups, holding different activities for different topics and target users.
The group I joined was the Communication & Management Team, that took the responsiblity to promote the event to the local community, to record all the phases, and to manage the entire workshop and final event.

The Overview Of The Event
The goal of the event is to open the public university spaces to the residents of the neighbourhood with a series of initiatives to understand, observe and benefit from a public space that at the moment is exclusively dedicated to university users.
We are involved in developing different design activities, carried out through some “toolkits”, interaction instruments to be prototyped, tested and shown to the people living in Bovisa neighbourhood. The actions will focus on the recovery of the historical memory of the campus, on the installation of temporary spaces for games and sport activities, on the knowledge of the existing laboratory structures, on the involvement
of local associations.

Group Split And Roles Definition
The “Com,Ma Team” was divided since the very beginning in sub-teams with specific tasks. Knowledge of what the sub-teams were doing during every day of the course has been shared with the rest of the team daily, in order to be coordinated and constantly updated on what we were doing.

The sub-teams were organized as follows:
EVENT TEAM : Xing, Paolo
COORDINATOR : Federico
VIDEO & PHOTO : Pedro, Tiago
“SPAM” TEAM : Adriano, Deborah, Valentina, JiaXuan, Yanti

With “Event Team” we defined a specific team which duty was mainly to generate a concept for the guerrilla advertising action on Day3. After completing this task, Event Team merged into the Spam Team.

With “Coordinator” we defined a role of a main supervisor of our teamwork and manager of the coordination of the other groups. The coordinator has been the main person in charge of the management of the social channels.

With “Video & Photo” we selected the most skilled team members who could take care of the photoshooting and video recording during all phases of the workshop as top priority of their tasks.

With “Spam Team” we organized a group of people which main duty was to diffuse and communicate the event, to increase awareness outside and inside of the campus of what the course output would have been. Managing the existing communication and graphics or create new ones has been an important part of their jobs aswell, both for advertising or event materials.

The definition above used many times the word “manily / main” to underline that the group has always worked as a whole, and each group member have helped other subteams whenever they were in need of a helping hand.
Logo Designs For The Sub-Teams
We asked the sub-teams to brainstorm the concept of their logos, and make a description or a simple sketch to communicate their concepts to our communication & Management team. We unified their ideas into same style logos.
The Logos were used in promotion and event.
Traditional Advertising
The Spam Team was in charge of informing, diffusing and advertising the event in Bovisa neighbourhood. Posters, postcards, flyers, guerrilla and word-of-mouth have reached a wide range of people in Bovisa neighbourhood.
Totems In The Local Street Market To Promote Our Event
The Event Team had an own brainstorm session, which was discussed with the rest of the Com,Ma team, and eventually came out with a clever, impactful solution for the market advertising activity: an interactive installation and stand, which we called “totem”, that served both the purpose of advertising and the purpose of involving people, making them participate. The participation of people just required them to post their feedbacks and suggestion on the totems, completing the sentence “C’è Spazio Per ___” on an A6 blank sheet of paper. Meanwhile, people have been briefed and informed with targetized information about the overall event and specific activities. All the groups participated to the market event, and came back satisfied and happy.
Totems Divides The People Stream And Leaving Free Spaces
On that day, the market stands made by vans will be placed in the two sides of the road, leaving a narrow path which is approximately 5 meters wide. There are three main entrances of the market: the two ends of Via Massara and the end of Via Francesco. The market started from 7 am and almost end at 2 pm.

The Event Team brainstormed for the promotion event in the market at Via Massara de Capitani and Via Francesco on Wednesday. We proposed to build 3 or 4 “Spazio” in the middle of the path that is not disturbed by the stream of people. The triangular prisms divide the people stream, leaving a empty space in the street. (like the topic finding/creating the hidden space).
The Welcome Desk Organization Of Final Event
On the three gates of Bovisa campus of politecnico di Milano, the comma team set Welcome desks to greet people and introduce the brief to the participant, answering their questions and direct the right path to the places of activities.
every paticipants will have his own name badge, thich will help our staffs to know who is the target users. We also prepared orange as a gift for the people.
Red Chair Photo For Participants
Beside the gate, the participants can take a photo in front of the red chair. the photo will be used in promotion. All the people be shot have signed the contract to use their photos in publication and media.
