"Catrinas: Perspectivas de la Muerte" it's a recent art/sale exhibition that took place in the Mexican Embassy of Guatemala on October 30th, 2012.
The concept of the exhibition is based on giving a new traditional & innovative view to a very important holiday "El Día de Muertos" which is originally celebrated in Mexico on November 2nd every year, taking on consideration a traditional character called "La Catrina".
According to the mexican tradition, it is believed that Death (La Catrina),gives us a sense of identity, helping us to be deeply-rooted with our culture & community. This “dear & misterious lady” is also associated, paradoxically, with the pleasure of living in the presence of an imminent death.
In this graphic collection La Catrina is reflected on different feminine models, illustrating several moods and ideas of the character, in order to create interest in content and aesthetic feel about the knowledge of death in the mexican culture and the perception every work gives to tradition and modernity.
This artistic project is also dedicated to José Guadalupe Posada (the original creator of La Catrina), as well as a demostration of patriotism and love to my roots. Enjoy!
