Catnip: A selection of cat idioms and their origins

THE BRIEF

Research into how the English language uses animal imagery to express a richness of meaning and expression... You are required to select 6 phrases, research their derivation/meanings and explore creatively to translate each of the animalisms into visually compelling images... The images should be presented as a visual sequence, as pages in print using a book, magazine, broadsheet, or can be digital and purely screen based.

THE SOLUTION

I created a book based on cat idioms in honour of my own cat, Gilmore. I used ‘barrier grid animation’ to bring the images in the book to life. I have used paper mechanics to side a piece of clear acetate over a broken up image when each page is turned, this shows a series of images in sequence giving the impression that the image is moving. I illustrated the cats and designed the workings of the whole book, before putting it all together myself.
Thanks for looking :)
