ENGLISH: Here are the pictures of Carnivore versions 1 & 2, in their finished state. As in “Youcan have me”, the nod to the artistic style of the Colonial era is quitee vident. Again, the first step was reproducing the bust of a Colonial Saint Francis of Assisi. Later on I changed its face. The head of the woman coming out from the sculpture (a kind of deathly-androginous fashion model) was inspired by a Vogue cover. The stain behind her head resembling an explosion replaces the usual golden aureole that you find in Catholic iconography. The other and almost-abstract green stain that looks like a headphone set was originated from a mistake I made in the first version that I later decided to leave untouched…it could be a pair of headphones,or not…

The title refers to a carnivore plant but also to the jewerly collection called “Milly Carnivora”from the luxury brand Dior. The earing pending from the woman’s ear is fromthat collection. I wanted to twist the original San Francis and turn it into akind of modern, androginous, brainless and materialistic Femme Fatale which nolonger promotes mercy and sacrifice but is now selling luxurious jewerly.

ESPAÑOL: Estas son las versiones terminadas de Carnivore 1 y 2. Como en “You can have me” el guiño al estilo del arte colonial es evidente. De nuevo, el primer paso fue reproducir el busto de la estatua en madera policromada de un San Francisco de Asis colonial, para luego cambiarle el rostro. La cabeza de la mujer que asoma de la escultura es una especie de modelo cadavérica y andrógina y se inspira en una portada de la revista Vogue. La mancha de pintura que semeja una explosión reemplaza la típica aureola dorada de la iconografía católica. La otra mancha cuasi-abstracta y de color verde que parece un par de audífonos proviene de un error que cometí en la primera versión, pero que decidí no corregir. Pueden serunos audífonos, o no…

El título hace referencia a una planta carnívora,así como a la colección de joyería “Milly Carnivora” de la marca de lujo Dior, de la cual vemos un ejemplar en el arete que pende de la oreja de la mujer. Así, el San Francisco original que ahora es una especie de Femme Fatale andrógina, descerebrada y consumista, ya no nos vende piedad y sacrificio sino una joya lujosa.
