- Eastern Eggs - comprised of Yujin Yun, Ewa Balazinska and Christina Katsantoni - and their partners created COUNTO12: A digital real-time and countdown clock - downloadable as a screensaver.
The "COUNTO12" project is driven by time but inspired by people. Both a real-time and a countdown clock, it is visually and digitally implemented in such a manner to represent the colourful world of East London through randomly projected, spontaneous and diverse portraits. Our work attempts at drawing a dynamic parallel universe among the inhabitants and the world en route to a great event:
The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The project involves a website and a screensaver application which were launched and screened for the first time ever during the Late Shift Extra: ReAnimate in the premises of the Gallery in August 2011.Take a look at the project and download the screensaver on your laptop:
- 'Challenging, inspiring, revealing. The Road to 2012 project has been an exciting experience for us. The freedom offered through both artistic and multimedia means to express the range of emotions of the people of east London on the journey to the Olympic and Paralympic Games, has been a decisive factor in our participation in this project. We felt eager to portray our local environment of people living, working and studying in east London and represent them in their natural surroundings and everyday occupations.
For COUNTO12 we have photographed over 500 people living, working and studying in the Olympic-host boroughs of Greenwich, Tower Hamlets, Hackney, Newham and Waltham Forest. Different faces, different places, same feeling of anticipation...' Yujin, Christina and Ewa.
- Eastern Eggs:A few words about the team behind the clock...Why Eastern? Because that is what u get when u add Korean, Polish and Greek flavor to the mix.
Why Eggs? Because creativity is like an egg: once u crack it, u can scramble, fry, hard-boil and pickle it any way u like!
Eastern Eggs were born on a cold February day in SouthEast London at Goldsmiths and since then they haven't stopped living and working creatively.
