ALBERT PEREZ MAYOLAS's profile

CONCURSO PORTO OLÍMPICO

I worked with Lagula Arquitectes (www.lagula.to) from October 2008 to June 2011. I assisted as an apprentice architect in the design of projects for national and international competitions and Final Plan Sets.

This competition was organized by the City Council of Rio de Janeiro and the Brazilian Government. It was a national competition so we worked associated with two other big Spanish firms and with a Brazilian one.
The aim of this competition was to renew a port area with equipment for the Olimpic Games 2016. Concretely we had to design a group of buildings to accommodate the media, referees and a convention centre.

We began the project with an in-depth study of Rio de Janeiro and its main features. We found that to build the present port area they had to flatten many mountains, destroying one of the main characteristics of Rio de Janeiro, its topography. We were very interested in that operation and we began to explore some ideas to take back the importance of the topography in the plot.

We started doing some diagrams and a 3D model. We made many changes before getting the final result. Duringthis time I assisted in designing the initial diagrams for the competition and in the making of a 3D model of the hole building to produce some initial 3D views. Once we had decided the general shape of the buildings, I produced a 3D model with different prefab concrete shapes for the facade.
